Caredove is a web-based tool that makes it easy to communicate with workshop attendees by launching a "mailto" link that opens your default email client (e.g., MS Outlook) and auto-populates the BCC field with registrants' emails.

This feature streamlines sending appointment reminders, helping ensure the best attendance outcomes.

When this function doesn't work correctly, it is often related to the following concerns:

1. Default Email Client Configuration

  • Issue: Your agency computers may not have a default email client configured, or the email client may not support "mailto" links properly.

  • Solution: Check if a default email client is set on your agency's computers. Ensure that it is compatible with "mailto" links and can handle the BCC field.

2. Browser Compatibility

  • Issue: Different browsers handle "mailto" links differently. Some may not support them fully or handle the BCC field improperly.

  • Solution: Test the functionality in different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) to see if the issue is browser-specific. Ensure that pop-ups or link handling settings aren’t blocking the email client launch.

3. Security and Permissions Settings

  • Issue: Your agency might have security settings that block external applications from launching from a web page.

  • Solution: Ask your IT team if they have implemented security policies (e.g., group policies) that prevent email clients from launching via "mailto" links. Adjust security settings accordingly.

4. Email Client Type

  • Issue: Some email clients (like web-based Gmail or Outlook) behave differently with "mailto" links compared to desktop clients (e.g., Outlook, Thunderbird).

  • Solution: If your agency is using web-based email clients, ensure that their browser is set up to handle "mailto" links properly. You may need a browser extension or different settings.

5. Special Characters or Email Format

  • Issue: There might be formatting issues with the email addresses (e.g., special characters, spaces).

  • Solution: Verify the email format being passed into the "mailto" link. Ensure all email addresses are correctly formatted and that no special characters are causing issues.

6. Javascript or Plugin Blockers

  • Issue: Your agency may have browser extensions (like ad blockers or script blockers) that prevent the "mailto" link from functioning.

  • Solution: Test without any browser extensions or plugins that may block script execution or "mailto" links.

7. BCC Field Limitations

  • Issue: Some email clients or systems might have limits on the number of BCC addresses they can handle at once.

  • Solution: Ensure the number of email addresses being passed into the BCC field doesn’t exceed the email client’s limits. Test with fewer addresses to see if the issue persists.

By checking these areas, you should be able to pinpoint why the functionality is not working at your agency. If you still have a problem, please contact Caredove support.
